The Tree of Work represents lives, jobs, moments in time; some joyous, some miserable. Contained within separate bubbles, people are depicted doing different kinds of work, in separate worlds the way that people can be when they’re doing their jobs. Drawing on the theme of labour and the body, the work considers the different impacts that different jobs can have. Manual labour may come with physical benefits but take a toll on your energy, while working at a computer can be more stimulating for your mind but your body may suffer.
Liana’s submission showed an excellent understanding of the brief, and the selection panel loved the way the work explores both physical and mental stresses of labour. The sophistication of the maquette and the way it conveys the artist’s ideas made this a very strong entry.
