Rob Hood’s works take up the found detritus of pop and consumer culture, transforming it into forms simultaneously context-specific, thought-provoking and beautiful. His work has been characterised by the critic Andrew Paul Wood as being ‘of emerging national significance and universal humanity in an increasingly alienating, fragmented and isolating world’.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts in 1999, Hood returned to complete a Master of Fine Arts in 2011. Hood had his first solo exhibition in 2000 and since then has exhibited extensively throughout New Zealand. Since 2010 he has held exhibitions in Christchurch at Dog Park, Jonathan Smart Gallery and the Physics Room, while participating in a range of group exhibitions, including Tricksters (part of Rolling Maul) at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū in 2012; Prospect: New Zealand Art Now at Wellington City Gallery, 2011; From a City Forsaken by its Gods at Firstdraft Gallery, Sydney, 2011; and Last Ride in a Hot Air Balloon, 4th Auckland Triennial, 2010. Hood was the Olivia Spencer Bower Fellow in 2007. Rob Hood is represented by Jonathan Smart Gallery.
